We’re not even three whole months into the new year, but already some significant trends in music are showing us that 2012 is a whole new year. To see this clearly, you have to look back at the entire year 2011: its stars, its top hits, its public dramas and scandals. You have to get inside the mind of the year that was to appreciate the year that is. It’s still very early in 2012, but we can definitely tell something is afoot in the kinds of sounds people are going for now versus then. Continue reading
Have you ever thought about something really deeply and found yourself wondering, “What’s up with that?” When Beyonce first introduced her “alter ego” persona, Sasha Fierce, way back in 2007, I honestly didn’t give it much thought. I figured it was some sort of performance art. What I never really understood was how strongly that persona has come to be identified with Beyonce, the person. Now that she and Jay-Z have their little daughter Ivy Blue (also an unusual name when you think about it) you really stop to think how much Beyonce’s image has changed since her debut album back in the early 2000s. Still, no complaints! We like Beyonce the same as ever. Continue reading
New Music Time, Folks!
Obviously I love when new music comes out. It pumps me up when I hear something new that I just love. More often than not though I get a little disappointed in the new releases. I mean, I guess I have some high standards or something but so much of today’s new stuff just does not give me the chills that I am looking for.

How to choose how you should listen to music…
Last Friday Spotify made an announcement that the Radio functionality has been made over. This change has made it so customers (even non-paying) can skip through however many songs they want to and create however many stations they would like. Of course this seems to be a direct way to call out Pandora since no matter who you are, paying or not, you only get six skips a hour per station. The newest version of Spotify is in beta, but to make sure that you have the best information about making a choice, I thought I’d give it a run. I downloaded the new version of Spotify (it only comes in a desktop app) and opened up Pandora in my browser. Remember–Pandora also has a mobile app and desktop app that functions just like the browser supported option. Let’s see how the two compare, shall we? Continue reading
I love music awards shows. The main reason that I watch them is not to see who takes home the trophies and prizes, but to see the performances. Last night’s Country Music Association Awards performances definitely did not disappoint. I was so excited with the duets this year too. I mean Rihanna and Jennifer Nettles, yes please! Country music is one of my favorite genres because I grew up on it, and I know many people like to think it’s depressing and sad music. Let’s be honest though, country music should really have a place in everyone’s heart. Most of the songs are so easy to relate to, and no matter where you’re from you have to have a little country or redneck in you. Continue reading
Alright, it’s a matter of opinion for sure, but lots of fans recently surveyed seem to think Lady Gaga looks way better without the characteristic truckloads of makeup she normally smears on for shows and cameras. She’s every bit as famous for her famously stylized image as she is for her numerous catchy pop tunes, but in in several pictures taken of the pop icon, Lady GaGa has actually let her guard down somewhat and appeared sans makeup on many occasions. Let me first preface with saying that this is indeed a rant. It is a rant about the fact that I think techno and electronic dance music is pretty much awful in every way imaginable. If you like techno and electronic dance music, I do not care and you cannot change my mind by arguing with me, so maybe you should just stop reading this. Seriously, techno, it is like opening a can of disagreeable bees inside of your head and having to listen to it. It is pointless, annoying, and what kind of talent does it take to make a techno song. Even I can come up with a crappy beat and speed it up to the point where it’s almost seizure inducing but not quite. I am just so not a fan of techno and I cannot believe that there are still people out there enjoying it. Honestly, it is time to grow up, put your glow sticks in the garbage and find something better to do with your time than going to a rave. Continue reading
Katy Perry has dominated the music industry since the day she released her first album. Her latest hit Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) has blasted it’s way to the top of the charts as well as being heard all over the radio. You can even watch the video at home by finding it on the direct tv guide. Continue reading
For those of us who enjoy the stories that are being told through the lyrics in country music, the song Colder Weather is the perfect example. This song was released by the Zac Brown Band not long ago as a single. The music video and meaning behind the song are both amazing. Continue reading
There are plenty of skeptics out there when it comes to the true talent of modern musical artists because of all the technology that exists that can distort sounds and supposedly make a tone deaf amateur sound like a professional. I agree that there are certain musicians who don’t perform well live and those who sound better than they do on a CD when they are live. But it seems like these days, not matter which category you’re talking about, pretty much anyone can land an acting gig. Whether it’s a cameo in a popular sitcom or a leading role in a motion picture, the lines between being a singer and an actor are blurred. Continue reading
